Obama screws the pooch with taxpayer funded stem-cell research

WASHINGTON (AP) — Reversing an eight-year-old limit on potentially life-saving science, President Barack Obama plans to lift restrictions Monday on taxpayer-funded research using embryonic stem cells. The long-promised move will allow a rush of research aimed at one day better treating, if not curing, ailments from diabetes to paralysis — research that crosses partisan lines, backed by such notables as Nancy Reagan and the late Christopher Reeve. But it stirs intense controversy over whether government crosses a moral line with such research.

Now a ton of people get this confused with “banning stem cell research”.  No, Bush banned taxpayer funded stem cell research.  I think Obama really fucked up by reversing this (surprise surprise).

Think about it; your tax-dollars are now going to be used to fund research that a private company is going to charge you 10.4 zillion dollars for you to recieve benefits from.   Thats right, WE as taxpayers are paying for R&D that a private company is going to profit from.  That sound like a good idea to you?  You think this company that makes something awesome is going to cut us taxpayers a break because they got their research subsidized by the government?  Hell no!

It would be different if the private company used private funds to fund their research.  Then I can see charging an arm and a leg for this stuff, but no, they will be getting a subsidized ride via an already broke government on our broke backs so they can make a zillion dollars.  If we want to socialize the research, then lets socialize their profits too! Its bullshit, and I’m tired of using taxpayer dollars to subsidize things that the private sector should pick up the tab for!  The only way that I will be in favor of this is if all government-funded research gets put into the public domain (ie: not patented) so anyone can use it.

So in 10 years, when we’re still in debt, but a brand new treatment is out for $foo that nobody can afford (and the company is reporting record profits this year!), think of me.

Thoughts on OctoMom

February 11th, 2009 scsi 6 comments

Warning! This post may make me look like an asshole.  Wait, probably because I’m responsible, unlikeOctomom who I am ranting about.

This post is dedicated to Nadya Suleman AKA Octomom, someone who has to be the stupidest twat on the planet.  This woman, obviously in need of some Haldol or a good swift kick to the face, is more entertaining/sad/train-wreckish than 80 year old people having sex.

Time-line for my own records (so I can look back in 10 years when all of her kids are in prison/foster care):

  • Started as a hero for delivering 8 kids.  People were ecstatic and happy for her.
  • Public started to turn when they found out she was single
  • Things got worse when it was brought out that she had 6 kids already
  • It got sad when it was found out she lived with her mom
  • Its depressing when it was found out that she is on food stamps
  • Had a date with a wood-chipper when revealed that of her 6 non-ICU kids, 1 of them has autism and 2 of them have developmental problems.

I don’t even know where to begin.

  1. No Job
  2. No Money
  3. Has 6 children already.  One is autistic – Two have some developmental issues
  4. She has no way to support herself.
  5. During her interview, she uses God to rationalize her decision.  That her unused eggs should have a chance of life.  Wow.. just.. wow….
  6. She is using student loans to pay for her children.  Like wtf?
  7. Bitch wants to be like Angelina Jolie.  She denies it, but just LOOK AT HER.

Take a realistic look at this.  Single mothers have a hard enough time with 1 or 2 children.  How can she have 6 PLUS 8 newborns and actually expect to hold a job that pays enough to support all of them?  Not even looking at the money part, how can she have enough hours in the day to spend with each child so they will grow up to be well balanced and nurtured?  Her parents have disowned her, its just her with 14 kids under the age of 7!

She claims she is not on welfare, but she gets SSI checks for 3 of her 6 non-newborn children because they are disabled.  Yeah, you read that right.  “Special Needs” children + 3 “normal” + 8 newborns.  I’m not even going to bring up food stamps because thats just a drop of piss in the ocean of wtf’ness.

Wait wait, she is going to work to support all of them -and- find the time to spend with all of them.  She could be the inventor of the 40 hour day!  This is assuming all 8 grow up to be healthy and happy.  Since the previous batch of children had some issues, I’d be -very- surprised if they all turned out ‘normal’ (well, as normal as you can be when your mother is fucking psychotic).

During the interview, its obvious that her lips were redone.  Older pictures show her lips to be ‘normal’ and now they are huge.

If that doesnt piss you off enough – Kaiser is asking for MediCal (Calfornia’s Medicaid Program) to pick up the tab for the birth/ICU!

The revelation, brought to light by the Los Angeles Times, stoked concerns that Suleman, 33, will become a heavier drain on public assistance once her six new sons and two new daughters are sent home in a few weeks from Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center, where they were born Jan. 26. They are the U.S.’s oldest surviving octuplets. The newspaper also reported that Kaiser has asked California’s health plan for the poor, which is Medi-Cal, to cover the enormous cost of delivering the babies.

HAHAHAHA! The state that is probably going to give me an IOU as a tax-return is most-likely going to foot the bill for a crazy bitch’s psychotic escapades in baby-making!  I hope California tells Kaiser to fuck themselves.  This is California, of course they wont. :( :( :(   This makes me sick.  Here is a woman who can’t afford the 6 she already has, the country is delving deeper in a recession, California is broke, people are out of work, shes $50k in debt (stated in the interview) does not have enough hours in the day to work + take care of her existing children,  and then she has 8 more kids?  Wow, just…wow..  She has absolutely zero idea what shes up against.  Zero.  Zero zero!  She said that one of her kids had colic for 14 hours a day and it was a handful, yeah, multiply that by 8 now!  She has made a huge problem for herself and is unable to grasp how deep of shit she is in.

If we are looking at the ‘this is sad’ scale, this woman is so far off the chart that she’s circled back around again!  I’m putting a bet that she’ll kill herself within the year.  She will cave due to the pressure of 8 screaming infants + 3 “normal” kids + 3 disabled kids and just off herself.

00:40 <corvus> Bets if octomom will off herself within the year
00:40 <corvus> yay or ney
00:40 <n6ko> hopefully but that kinda crazy seems to live forever like a black hole of refuckintarded

Before you comment here saying how much of an asshole I am (we support OpenID for your LJ/DJ commenting pleasure), remember that -responsible- people are choosing to not have children because they cannot afford them in these economic times or life changes prevent putting that kid first.

I hate dive software

August 26th, 2008 scsi No comments

There seems to be a lack of good dive log archiving software around. One’s that just plain/generic and logs the basic info.

Oceanic’s software sucks ass.
Suunto seems to have their shit together, but what if you change dive computers?

I’m fed up with searching/payware and windows-only bullshit. I’m writing my own.

Thats right, you heard me. Writing my own.

Import a CSV file with the fields, and data input will be via a stupid simple web-form thats accessable via iphone, blackberry, lynx, whatever. Something simple and uncomplicated so after the dive i can just spend 2 seconds logging the info and be done with it.

Oh, and the world of watches (dont ask me how I got into this), but Water Resistant 200m is NOT the same as Divers 200m. Huge difference.

Water Resistant 200m means that it can take water forces up to 200m on a non-continuous basis, say falling off of a jetski or bailing while waterskiing. It can handle sudden impacts of force without flooding. Its not meant to be subjected to the continuous force of diving + any external forces by moving your arm underwater.

Divers 200M means it can be subjected to a continuous 200m force + any external forces of moving your arm around while underwater (thereby making force spikes above the continuous water pressure).

Whois privacy scam

March 21st, 2008 scsi 1 comment

Am I the only one who thinks that the “privacy” service that most internet registrars is just a fucking scam? I mean they got themselves into this mess with people harvesting information from our whois info, and yet they have the balls to charge us to make that information “private”? This shit should of been private right from the get-go, and the registrars decided to cash in on it.

Lets make a huge problem that in 5 years we will be able to make a “fix” and rake in the cash. Sounds like a Microsoft product.

Automatic Checkout

February 24th, 2008 scsi No comments

Today I had the wonderful idea of replacing the water-sensor and flapper valve that powers the ancient toilet in my house.  It wasn’t filling properly, and I figured that if I could pass pharmacy school, a toilet couldn’t be too hard to fix.  Nothing annoys me more than sitting down waiting for the damn toilet to fill when there is 1 shit-covered piece of toilet paper floating around in there.  The old fill-valve took about 5 min’s to fill the tank, which is way too long in my book.

So I managed to find the toilet-rebuilding section of Home Depot and gather my parts.  It wasn’t too hard or involved since toilets are pretty much standardized (thank god) so I grabbed a few other things I needed and proceeded to the auto-checkout line.

There was a woman there berating the machine at the top of her lungs as to how stupid it was, and how they were so hard to use, blah blah blah, rant rant rant.  I looked around at the 4 empty checkout lines who’s clerks were just sitting there looking at her.  Personally I like the auto-checkout because its fast, and I like scanning stuff.  Her and I finished about the same time as she decided to involve me into her psychotic tirade about the checkout machines.  She started saying “dont you find those hard to use?”.  I sorta quietly said “Well, not really, I like them”.  Boy, wrong answer.  Have two-scoops of insanity-driven money-shot all over your face Frank.  I just sorta ignored her as I walked to my car continuing to hear her rant about the damn auto-checkouts.

Now I was confused, did she intentionally go to the auto-checkout so she’ll have something to bitch about or out of convince.  There was really nobody in the store at the time, so she could of gone to a manual checkout and gotten serviced by a real person.  I think she was just lonely and needed something to bitch about, much like I’m doing now in a more public but less conspicuous way.

People on American Idol Suck

February 17th, 2008 scsi No comments

So since my Fiance is out of town for the week (and I’m bored off of my ass), I decided to watch some of the American Idol episodes she has recorded.

If I hear “OMG I DID NOT MAKE IT, NOW WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY LIFE” I will vomit blood on an innocent puppy.  Who in the hell puts their future on competing on a stupid TV show?  Seriously, that ranks up there with having a retirement plan of “Winning the Lottery”.

People on TV are full of win.
