Avandia Clusterfuck

May 22nd, 2007 scsi No comments

Oh My God.
The Avandia shitstorm is hitting the fan already. Gotten like bazillon phone calls already.
Points:

  • If you’re a diabetic, you’re at risk for a heart attack regardless. Deal with it.
  • The “study” that shows a higher risk, totally threw out a bunch of studies that SHOWED NO RISK. Gee, that didnt skew the figures at all.
  • The lawsuits are already starting.. WAKE UP AMERICA! THIS IS WHY THE COST OF YOUR MEDICATION IS SO FUCKING HIGH!!@#!
  • Heart attacks, in a population that has already a higher inicidences of heart attacks.. WHO WOULD OF FUCKING THOUGHT!
  • The package insert clearly states THE INCREASED RISK OF HEART ATTACKS DUE TO THIS SUBSET OF THE POPULATION! This isnt anything new!!
  • So Jeff calculated the actual risk due the raw data from the 40+ studies (including the 6 or so that nothing eventful happened). Turns out the amount of heart attacks INCREASED in the placebo group, but the amount of deaths was 0.25% higher in the Avandia group vs Placebo. What this means.. NOTHING! ITS FUCKING RANDOM! (p < 0.05!)
  • Kicker! The study that made all this shit hit the fan? Its funded by ALL THE DRUG COMPANIES THAT MAKE COMPETING PRODUCTS!@! Lilli, Sanofi, Pfizer, the works.
Lawyers need to die. Im sorry, but the world would be a better place without them. If you’re a lawyer, and reading this, im sorry, but I rate you the same as sleezy politicians. My soul hurts for pharmacy.
Amazing what the news doesnt report..

    Angry Pharmacy Rant

December 19th, 2006 scsi No comments

    Dear America,

You wonder why your drug costs are so high? You wonder why that prescription for prevacid or protonix costs 150 bucks for a month supply? Its because unfortunately, a small percentage of you figure you can sue the drug manufacturer due to known side effects. Side effects that are so odd and infrequent that you werent warned about. So you settle for 3.8 billion dollars. That money has to come from somewhere, so like any retard with any common sense, of course the price of goods is going to go up to recoup the cost.

Im not talking about weird side effects, im talking about perfectly known stuff. Like Zyprexa causing diabetes or increased suicide risk with children an antidepressants.

  • Any two bit medical retard knows that all anti-psychotics (Haldol, Thorazine, Mellaril, etc) and the new atypical anti-psychotics (Zypreza, Risperdal, Clozeril *shiver*) cause weight gain. Simple known fact. Well, when you have rapid weight gain, of course (like the McDonalds Man) you’re going to have a good chance of developing insulin resistance (Type 2 diabetes). Thats someone every doctor, pharmacist, nurse (eh, maybe), etc knows. With me so far?
  • Antidepressants are used in children when absolutely needed. So of course it makes sense that if a child is suicidal normally, that he would be put on an antidepressant. So how can you make a correlation between suicide and antidepressant use when the target population is already suicidal? Thats like putting a news alert out saying that bartenders are more prone to be alcoholics. Well fucking duh! They work with alcohol all day! Plus children are horrible historians to boot, and will agree with anything you say so they’ll get positive feedback.

So why in the fuck are people suing because of this? Thats like suing because an ace-inhibitor causes cough, or Trazodone causes drowsiness or priapisms.

Personally, if I were in need of an anti-psychotic, i’d take the weight gain/diabetes/living a ‘normal life over voices/suicide tendencies/jail time for murder because Jesus told me so.

Are people so stupid as to not realize why these are prescription only? That you need to go see a doctor (who went to college for a long time), then your pharmacist (who went to college for a long time) to obtain these? Two professionals that have the prescribing and dispensing monopoly in this country! If this shit was as safe as water, then why wouldn’t it be OTC? Hell, Tylenol and Aspirin cause more deaths and long term ill effects than more Rx drugs do, and you don’t see people suing Bayer and McNeal (or whoever makes Tylenol)!

So America. Next time you go to the doctor and get that shiny new Rx for 200 bucks worth of medication thats going to save/prolong your life, don’t think of the greedy drug companies, nor the hard working pharmacist as you hand over your VISA card, but the selfish stupid son-of-a-bitch living in some trailer with 2.8 billion dollars hiding under his bed who put everyone in this situation.

    Thank you,

    Frank Precissi, PharmD, RPh

Yeah, on so much cold medication I could walk on water.
That all I have to say now. Somebody blew up the tracks on my train of thought.
