Ugh, Hockey

January 25th, 2009 scsi 1 comment

The worst part about the Stockton Thunder is their inconsistancy.  For example, they can totally kick ass against one of the best teams in the league while at the same time losing to someone lower than themselves on the standings.

I guess this can happen with any sport, but all I wish is that we would be #1 for once.

Tyler Johnson – Stop being an ECHL Ref

April 13th, 2008 scsi No comments

Dear Mr Tyler Johnson (#24) of the ECHL Ref Squad.

You don’t know me, but I am a fan of the Stockton Thunder. On the playoff game against the Las Vegas Wranglers, I witnessed so many missed, botched, and generally bad calls that not only did I feel sorry for you, but I felt embarrassed for you.

The final call of the night that lost us the game was your crowning achievement. You see, I was at glass level, and since there was a delayed penalty on the play I was watching for you to blow the whistle to end the play once Las Vegas regained control of the puck. However you never did. Stockton’s player had the puck for a full 2 to 3 seconds and no whistle was blown. We scored to win, but you waved it off saying that it was made after the whistle blew. Does the puck glancing off of the goalie to go into the net count as “possession” and is grounds to end the play? How can the whistle blow when you in fact never blew it? You wonder why not only myself, the rest of the fans, AND the entire team went ballistic on you. You made a horrible call. You screwed up big time and did not have the courage to admit it. You skated off with your tail between your legs and hid while the players gave you dirty looks and the crowd threw things at you. You see, we see everything, and the amount of blantant in-your-face calls that you “missed” were more than we could take. Everyone could see the look on your face that you in fact realized your error, but just sat there and did nothing.

Thanks a lot, thanks for costing my team the win over the #1 team in our league. Thanks for showing our players that the entire game of hockey is not how hard you play, or how much you practice, but what “favors” you give to the head ref.

Today….

Back from hockey. Best game evar.

  • We won, 6 to 2
  • Sold out game, just shy of 9000 people there
  • It was the 2nd annual teddy bear toss, where you bring a teddy bear and throw it out onto the ice after we make our first goal. I think there were like 5,000 bears on the ice at one point. They just started flying out there in giant waves and waves. They managed to completely fill the back (and cabs) of 2 trucks, as well has a half dozen 55 gallon garbage bags full. Going to be some happy kids out there.
  • The Franchise got its very first hat trick (three goals by 1 player in the same game). I found this out as Tiffany ripped my thunder hat off of my head and threw it onto the ice. Another handful of hats followed. Now i’m hatless.

Spend the evening with the Port City Roller Girls. Got roped into being a Ref, so I guess I had better learn the rules or something.. :) was the one who got me into this. So blame her.. :)

Took the old roller hockey skates out of retirement to meet up with PCRG at the local skating arena. Its only been, oh, 10 years since I last wore them. Even found my indoor wheels too! Most of my old Canadian Bacon of America skillz came back once I made a few laps. During the speed skate my front wheel came loose and I almost biffed it into the wall. Skates still fit, wheels still turn (even though I was poor back in 95-96 and my indoor wheels only have ABEC 3′s on them :( ). We always used to go to the family-skate night during the hockey days. Nothing makes you learn how to be nimble on your skates than dodging kids falling in front of you and crowds of people who dont know whats going on.

What made this night especially fun was it was Christian Music and Church Night. Short of me bursting into flames, seeing a group of tattoo’d up roller derby girls skate around was pretty funny.

Went to the bar afterwards with the girlz.

Met who also happens to have had a DeadJournal since the beginning. She shoots guns and rides motorcycles! Sweet! My parents wont let me have a motorcycle, but I have plenty of guns! Hopefully helping out the PCRG as much as I can. I really want to see them get rolling and I think the enthusiasm is there but the paperwork and details need to be hashed out. Whats good is that I can pretty much do most of the backend of anything they are looking for.

    This entry is pretty sappy.
