LOL at SF/Bay Area for their attempt to ban handguns when their BART officers shoot an unarmed person in the back.

I know the officer fucked up hugely. However if I, a private citizen, did the same thing (with video coverage no less) you think I would be treated the same? Let me answer this, no, I’d be in jail awaiting manslaughter charges. Why again do the police get access to armament that private citizens cannot have for fear of being a ‘danger’? Am I the only person who sees this HUGE double-standard?

I’m waiting for the ironic “only police should have guns” argument to this one.

I am up at the crack of dawn this fine morning to go kill turkeys.

Got my gun all camo’d, got my camo all setup, got my calls all ready to go. I sound like a redneck.

Pictures to come if I go kill one.

Guns and the stupid people who get to carry them.

February 18th, 2008 scsi No comments

So I’m walking around in my local gunstore looking at revolvers, and while I’m browsing the tons of overpriced Taurus’ I overhear a conversation between a store employee and a potential gun buyer.

This guy was either a cop or some sort of security guard.  He was obviously looking for something to carry concealed (since I doubt you’d strap a 3″ subnose revolver or Kimber 1911 to your hip).  He had not one clue about guns.  He was asking the most rudamentry and stupid questions (what caliber should I get, why does the 1911 have to be cocked and locked, SA vs DA triggers, etc).  Here is a guy who knows nothing about handguns who (unlike myself) has a license to carry a concealed weapon.

Now am I the only one who find something wrong with that?  You have me who has been shooting handguns/rifles for a good part of 20+ years, handloads his own ammo, has more guns that you can shake a stick at, can recite the ballistics and reloading data of all of the major rifle/handgun calibers, and the wonderful city of Stockton denies my CCW permit even though I’ve been held up at gunpoint twice while at work.  Lets just ignore the fact that I have a doctorate, am educated, and have access to more narcotics than a Grateful Dead concert.

The some dipshit rent-a-cop gets a CCW who knows nothing about handguns, can barely tell the difference between a 1911 and a sig, and has the gall to completely blow me off when I tell him from a non-salesman standpoint that he is going to need a nice Galco leather IWB holster to make that subcompact Kimber comfortable to carry 9+ hours a day.  Hell, If I were looking for a new gun, and someone said “You know, I have that, and to get the most out of it you’ll need *real world advice here*” I would be fucking grateful and ask HIM questions, not the salesman.

I mean hell, what do I know, I’m obviously not some Rent-A-Cop who is looking for an automatic in 38 special (*sigh*).  I almost left when he asked how many bullets the clip held (A ‘clip’ refers to a M1-Garand en-bloc clip or a moonclip.  He wanted to know how many rounds the magazine held.  Bullets are the part that shoot out of the gun, a round is the unfired bullet + casing + powder).

I left at the part where he is arguing with the guy who works there about not needing moon-clips for a revolver chambered in 45-ACP (for those at home, 45ACP is rimless, and revolvers need a rim for proper headspacing, so a moonclip puts an artificial ‘rim’ on a rimless auto cartridge).  I could tell the salesman was starting to get annoyed, and an off-duty cop in there decided to set him straight and just told him what he needs for a backup gun.

I mean really, If you are going to have a CCW don’t be a dick to those who know more than you do.

Introduction

February 9th, 2008 scsi No comments

I guess I should start this thing off by posting some sort of introduction so you all know what this site is about.

This site is going to be a braindump of random things that I’m interested in.  It can range from tabletop rpg, guns, computer stuff, pharmacy stuff, etc.

As for me, I’m a 29 year old living in California.  I’m a full-time pharmacist who also has a past-life as a sysadmin for an ISP.  I still play tabletop RPG games (and no, I do get laid and I do not live in my parents basement) as well as video games and do other things that your typical geek does (like drink gin).  I’m slated to get married to my wonderful fiance’ in 2008, and I wear size 12 shoes.

If you decide you like this site, then subscribe to the RSS feed.  If you don’t like this site, then go screw yourself and the horse you rode in on.

Mia and Goose Hunting

December 14th, 2007 scsi No comments

Last weekend took Mia out for her first goose hunting adventure. Mostly this was the acid test to see if she would be gunshy or not.

She wasnt. She played with Jeff’s choclate lab puppy for a good 3 hours. We got a few shots off, but never managed to hit anything (we didn’t have any blinds setup, no decoys, just sitting against the levy).

I decided to see if Mia could swim, so there was an 8ft drainage ditch that was full of water. Picking a spot where I could easily jump in/get out in case she sank, I threw in a stick. Both puppies went for it and spent the next few min’s swimming laps up and back the ditch.

So Mia is not gunshy and she can swim. Two good points for a hunting dog. Now I need to hit something to see if she’ll retrieve.

*sigh* Why am I in a state full of idiots

March 14th, 2007 scsi No comments

http://community.livejournal.com/guns/1180691.html

For those of you who don’t shoot guns, HR-1022 is a reinstatement of the assault weapons ban. Only now it can include

  • Any auto-loading pistol
  • Semi Auto Shotguns
  • Ruger 10/22
  • M1 Carbines (the one that loved so much
  • Basically anything, it means that all of my stuff will be ‘illegal’.

This is retarded. All of the supporters are rich Democrats who drive home to their gated communities via their private security. Sad we all dont have that luxury. Shitty that some of us have to work in a bad part of town, or don’t have the ability to be ‘special’ and have the police come within 1 min of calling 911 (if you dont get a busy signal). Some of us can afford to live in upscale neighborhoods free from crime.

These people are completely out of touch with reality. They view the world through a glass bubble that if we ban something, criminals wont get it (that worked /really/ well for heroin, pot, coke and meth). They are so nearsighted that they dont realize that this also affects off-duty police officers and retired military.

Wonder why San Francisco PD was so much against the SF Handgun Ban? Its because it disarmed them too. As soon as the badge came off, the guns had to come off to. Now when you put people in jail for a living, you really dont want to be caught unarmed when you are out enjoying a sunday walk with your family. These politicians dont realize this.

So I wont be able to have any guns. You probably give could give a rats ass about that. How about the battered woman who needs protection from her abusive husband? You think a 120 lb woman is going to go toe-to-toe with a 250 lb attacker with mace or a stungun (all must be used within arms reach)? How about the poor gay who gets his faced stomped in because of his sexual preference (and is unable to defend himself).

So if you think this is just smoke being blown up your ass, think of this: If we ban all guns, and the criminals obviously cant get them (because they are banned), then we should disarm the police as well. I mean its safe right? Guns are banned correct? Why do they need them?

Making useless laws that restrict the law-abiding tax-paying people (who pay their salaries) seems to be the norm now day. If this passes, I am never ever voting Democrat ever again.

    Attention California Voters!
Vote NO on the tobacco tax. It’ll increase tobacco about 130%!
Even if you dont smoke, do it out of the principle of Luxury/Sin taxes are stupid. If this passes, whats next? Cars? Boats? Houses? They already tax the hell out of alcohol and tobacco already!
You know California will just piss that money away on stupid stuff like lawsuits against the auto makers, putting on the SF ballot a ban on handguns fully aware that its against Californias constitution, and other stupid shit.
    Thank you.

Edit: Whats even stupidier, is that the state trying to mandate that all UPS/FedEx packages coming into the state be marked if they contain tobacco products so the state can send you a bill for the taxes you tried to evade by ordering stuff out of state.
